KPY 2022 Fashion Collection

Nature-19th

My initial inspiration came from Alexander McQueen's fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection, which was influenced by Gothic style and featured exaggerated and unique designs. I noticed that insect-inspired fashion has become increasingly popular in recent years. For instance, Gucci incorporated bees into Michele's debut women's Fall-Winter collection in 2015. Maria Grazia Chiuri also used the bee symbol in Dior's spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection, showcasing white fencing kits adorned with embroidered bees and paired with sneakers and knee-length boots. Alexander McQueen likewise centered their fall 2018 ready-to-wear collection around butterflies and bugs. Fashion and nature have always been intrinsically linked. The natural world has served as a source of inspiration for fashion design, drawing from elements such as weather, wildlife, and plants. Insects, being a part of nature, have been extensively utilized as design themes by many designers in recent years. When I first delved into the fashion of the 19th century, I observed that Alexander McQueen's collections often featured exaggerated and unique designs. His 2009 ready-to-wear collection, in particular, showcased influences from Gothic and Victorian styles. This piqued my interest in 19th-century clothing, leading me to choose the title "Nature-19th." Nature plays a significant role in this collection, and I have chosen insects as a representation because I find their anatomies to be unique, with distinct features such as bellies, hands, and feet. I hope to incorporate these patterns into the fabric designs. Furthermore, I aim to highlight the importance of insects and draw attention to the fact that these creatures are vital for maintaining ecological balance in our world.
